Project Objectives

The design objective is to create a built expression of the vitality of the practicing arts on campus, to increase the University's capacity to deliver high-quality arts instruction and serve as a concrete witness to its belief in the role that artistic practice plays in a liberal arts education. The David Logan Arts Center will be a hub of experimental artistry arising out of the conversations that are characteristic of Chicago's interdisciplinary culture. Dedicated to student practice and learning, the center offers possibilities for reaching new standards in versatile, state-of-the-art environments for artmaking, critical inquiry, and a fruitful interaction between the two. The building's spaces will be an inviting forum for visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, and performance artists to exchange ideas and collaborate. Finally, the David Logan Arts Center will foster the interaction of our faculty and students with our own professional arts organization, as well as with the arts communities of the South Side and the City of Chicago.
