Statement from the Architects

We believe that every project is the result of a specific collaboration between client, site, and builder. Our buildings recognize and celebrate the qualities of these relationships, and we feel that our work speaks with equal clarity to concerns of the spirit as well as to issues of use and efficiency. Our primary focus of work is institutional because we are interested in making buildings that will last longer than our lives and that represent an aspiration greater than that which is usually found in commercial work. We are primarily concerned with preserving a sense of wholeness. Thus, we consider the spaces between buildings to be as important as the buildings themselves. We believe that as architects we have the great privilege and the great responsibility to make marks upon the earth. Our buildings are not "object buildings." Rather, they have integral relationships to site and existing structures. We are excited about utilizing our firm's sensitivity to place and purpose to make the University of Chicago's Center for Creative and Performing Arts a reality.
